Royalties and Community Development Agreements

DEVELOPMENT DELAYED IS DEVELOPMENT DENIED! – Kwale County CSO Mining Working Group on Royalties and Community Development Agreements engaging the Kwale County Commissioner. For how long will the Kwale Community have to wait to get their rightful share of the royalties that Base Titanium has already paid to the national government? For far too long we waited for our political leaders to intervene but they have not managed to bring our mineral royalties rights to us.

Following the establishment of the Mining Working Groups that were endorsed and officially launched by the PS Ministry of Mining and Petroleum, the Royalties and CDAs Working Group would like to get to the bottom of this problem and get it resolved soonest! Kwale County is the biggest contributor of royalties and we cannot bury our heads in the sand yet a great injustice is being committed on the Kwale Community by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mining. We will be hosting key stakeholders in Kwale County on 23rd September to develop a clear CSO lead roadmap towards reclaiming Kwale’s cumulative royalties still withheld by the national government and as well fast track development of Community Development Agreements as guided by the Mining Act 2016 and the CDA Regulations 2016.

Ali Libondo Executive Director Ummah Initiative and Fakii Omar the CSO elected representative in the CDA committee and a member of KWACODEP delivered the CSO message to the Kwale County Commissioner.
